EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR (PART-TIME)
ASIA-PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL MOLECULAR BIOLOGY NETWORK (A-IMBN)

The A-IMBN, established in 1997, is a non-profit, non-governmental, and international organization headquartered in
Seoul, Korea. The mission of A-IMBN is to promote the development of molecular biology and biotechnology throughout
the Asia-Pacific region by fostering inter-institutional cooperation, by providing fellowship programs and technical
workshops, as well as by an annual scientific conference. The A-IMBN has been recognized as a priority APEC initiative
since 1998. Its current President is Professor Jeongbin Yim of Seoul National University,and the organization is overseen by a Governing Council (see http://www.a-imbn.org/).
ROLE: The Executive Director will assume leadership of the strategic development of the A-IMBN as an international
agency and the implementation of its service, training and scientific activities, as well as the financial management and
administration of the A-IMBN, under the guidance of the President and the Governing Council.
EXPERIENCE: The Executive Director should be experienced in molecular biology and biotechnology, as well as management of a scientific organization, and be familiar with the Asia-Pacific region. The position may be ideal for a semi-retired senior scientist who has worked as a research or academic leader in the region. It is not necessary that the Executive
Director be located in Korea, but rather may work from a base in their home country.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Executive Director will: (i) plan and implement A-IMBN programs (conference,
training courses, delivery mini-lectures, fellowships etc.); (ii) coordinate and review the activities of A-IMBN committees;
(iii) develop the annual budget and arrange the auditing of accounts; (iv) assist the Governing Council to raise funds for
the support of A-IMBN; Assist the President to promote collaboration with other organizations (e.g. EMBO, ICGEB, HFSP, FAOBMB, etc); (v)establish the legal status of the A-IMBN by drafting documents to approach APEC and other international entities approved by the Governing Council; (vi)draft policy documents underpinning new initiatives, resolutions for debate and ratification, and formal minutes of Governing Council meetings;(vii)manage communication among A-IMBN members and the Governing Council; (viii) prepare documents to formalize bilateral relationships with other agencies approved by the Governing Council.
The initial appointment is for a period of three years with a possible extension for a further three years. The salary scales ($US40,000/half time/year), and the terms and conditions of the appointment (including expenses of up to $US10,000 per annum) are determined by the Governing Council.
