International Training Course on Drug Development and Neglected Tropical Infectious Diseases
2012/11/12
Date: 27 – 31 May 2013
Lecture Session: 27 – 30 May 2013 (4 Days)
Workshop Session: 31 May 2013 (1 Day)
Venue:
Lecture Session: Room- BIOTEC Auditorium
Workshop Session: Room- BT-127
Organized by:
In collaboration with:
Université catholique de
Asia-Pacific International Molecular Biology Network (A-IMBN)
Rationale and Background:
The neglected tropical infectious diseases classified as a disease of poor countries. The development of drugs to treat disease cannot attract the attention of major pharmaceutical companies in developed countries to turn to focus and continuously research for new drugs. People suffer from the neglected tropical infectious diseases more than 1 billion worldwide. The diseases affect poor people in low-income developing countries. Research and drug development of neglected tropical infectious diseases operated under the constraints of technology and funding. Although today many agencies and organizations recognizes the importance of neglected diseases problem. There still need more researchers working on this area of research.
The idea of the Course/Workshop has initiated from two scientists with complementary in biochemistry, structural biology and parasitology, who share a common interest in neglected tropical infectious diseases. They are willing to share their experience for countries in tropical and subtropical regions on the many aspects of the design of new medicines for neglected tropical infectious disease.
This Course/Workshop will give an opportunity for young researchers to learn from expertise researchers in biochemistry, parasitology, and drug design to develop an effective treatment. The knowledge that participants get from this Course/Workshop will be benefited to their own countries such as established successful research programs or leading to functions in public health management related to health and disease.
Objectives:
To train young scientists from tropical areas covering the fields of parasitology, biochemistry, protein crystallography and structure-based drug design.
Workshop outline:
1. Fundamental Biochemistry and Parasitology
2. Structure Based Drug Design, with special emphasis on Neglected Infectious Tropical Diseases
Speakers:
Emeritus Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Parasitology
Université catholique de Louvain, Brussels, Belgium
